Regis Hair Salon is the namesake of the world’s biggest hair salon “chain” –Regis Corporation. The company has over eleven-thousand salons, both franchises and company owned. It ranks seven-hundred-seventy-eight on the list of the American “business magazine” Fortune, in terms of revenue.

It has branches in many parts of North America and Europe including chains that carry the name MasterCuts, Cost Cutters, Supercuts, Trade Secret, Vidal Sassoon, Saint Algue, and more. The company acquired “Hair Club for Men and Women” in 2005.

In North America, Regis Corporation’s center of operations is in Minneapolis, Minnesota, operating with its group of Regis Hair Salons, hair-restoration centers, and beauty schools all throughout the states. The company’s over nine-thousand-five-hundred Regis Hair Salons, offer an extensive array of “hair care” services such as styling, coloring, haircuts, including a broad collection of nationally renowned “professional hair care” products.

It also has worldwide locations, including eleven-thousand-six-hundred salons, more than eighty-five hair-restoration centers, and over fifty beauty schools. The “Hair Club” of Regis provides a complete set of choices for proven “hair loss” products, as well as services. The fifty beauty schools offer quality education for future stylists.

This success in the chain of Regis Hair Salons started out as a “one hair salon” about eighty-four years way back. Florence and Paul Kunin opened the “Kunin Beauty Salon” in 1922, which swiftly expanded into “value-price” chain of salons found in department stores.

In 1958, Kunin’s son Myron acquired the chain and changed the name to Regis. Myron saw the need for shifting towards the convenience of shopping malls, and started to transfer the salons from department stores to “freestanding operations” in enclosed malls.

With the company’s acquirement of “Supercuts” in 1996, Regis expanded into street locations and strip centers, as well as becoming a major power in franchising. The next several years, numerous acquisitions were done by the company and continued its expansion in the US, UK, and Canada.

In 2002, the company entered into Continental Europe with its acquirement of Saint Algue, Jean Louis David, and Vidal Sassoon –the most popular salon names in Europe. They carry on to grow internationally, and continuously acquiring and expanding in the beauty salon industry.
Today, the chain of Regis Hair Salons have grown into a “multibillion-dollar” corporation dedicated to making individuals feel and look beautiful. It has moved up steadily, having sales of $2.2-billion in 2005 fiscal year. They continue to be a global leader in hair restoration, hair care, and education.
